Functional Testing

Getting to the root cause

Testing helps us direct our focus and clearly understand what might be happening in our body that could contribute to our symptoms, allowing us to focus on the root cause from the ‘get-go’.

I offer various testing options through laboratories in Functional Medicine, the results of which use precise and clear terminology that the medical professional recognises, and therefore, they can be used in dialogue with your GP, for example. Here are some commonly used tests which you may be offered:

Food Intolerances and Nutritional Deficiencies

Taking a thorough look at your vitamin and mineral levels, along with screenings for food intolerances and allergies, can be incredibly beneficial! These tests are perfect for getting a better understanding of your overall health and exploring any symptoms you might be experiencing, whether it's related to skin conditions, respiratory issues, digestive discomfort, fatigue, or allergies.

Gut Microbiome Analysis

The microbiome, our "second brain," is key to overall health. Imbalances can cause IBS, bloating, low energy, weakened immunity, and even some long-term conditions like Alzheimer’s. The GI Effects stool test helps identify root causes, allowing us to restore gut health and balance which has lasting effects on overall health.

Women's Wellness

Blood tests for female health can be really helpful in spotting hormonal imbalances that might affect fertility, menopause, or conditions like PCOS. They also play a crucial role in checking important markers related to heart disease, diabetes, and how well our thyroid, liver, and kidneys are working. Plus, looking at blood cell markers such as cholesterol, inflammation, ferritin, vitamin B12, vitamin D, folate, and magnesium gives us great insights into our overall health and well-being.

Men's Wellness

A male health screening is a great way to check on important wellness indicators! It looks at things like liver and kidney function, testosterone levels, and the risk of diabetes. This screening also evaluates red and white blood cells, cholesterol, inflammation, bone health, and the storage of iron, including ferritin levels. We also examine essential nutrients such as vitamins B12, D, folate, and magnesium, along with thyroid function, to ensure everything is in balance. The testosterone test is especially important for libido and fertility, offering valuable insights for keeping track of long-term health in a proactive way!

Thyroid Testing

The thyroid gland is essential for your overall well-being. It plays a crucial role in regulating metabolism, energy levels, mood, cholesterol, and hormones. Unfortunately, many cases remain undiagnosed due to the limitations of standard NHS testing. However, thoroughly investigating TSH, T4, Free T3, Free T4, Reverse T3, thyroid antibodies, and the cofactors necessary for thyroid function can ensure a complete understanding of your thyroid health.

Adrenal and Stress Hormones

This saliva test identifies imbalances in cortisol and DHEA - key stress hormones regulating your circadian rhythm (sleep awake cycle). Such imbalances may impact energy, emotions, and overall health, potentially contributing to chronic fatigue, or pain linked to conditions like fibromyalgia.
